OBJECTIVES
Now that the Konekta Zaitez@Banda Zabala project has completed its final phase, a number of small villages or areas have been discovered without broadband infrastructures where it is either technically non-viable or obviously inefficient to introduce the technological solution applied throughout. This said, in these cases it may be feasible to introduce collective solutions based on alternative technologies. These measures require implication by the local corporations, ideal agents for defining and implementing the best solution in each case, while the Basque Government will subsidise broadband projects for providing local cover.
At the end of Phases I and II of the KZ@BandaZabala project, broadband is now available in the main towns and villages shunned by private initiative, as it is at the biggest businesses in the target towns and villages. Moreover, thanks to the cover obtained, it has been possible to provide a service in different areas not figuring on the list of target towns and villages.
Order from 11th of July 2007 (Official Basque Gazette no. 147, dated 1st of August 2007) regulates subsidies for extending broadband coverage to special locations or areas. Whatever the case, this is a question of collective, not individual situations, to be solved by means of technological solutions other than WiMAX.
