The analogue blackout opens the way for a new dimension: high definition

The analogue blackout that gave rise to the definitive implementation of DTT is the gateway to another new dimension marked by high definition.

According to the 2010 Final Report which summarizes the most outstanding aspects of the transition to Digital Terrestrial Television which became effective in early April following a process of more than four years, the daily percentage of DTT household users already exceeded 80% of the population at the beginning of 2010.

Since 2005 and until last April, 33.5 million DTT set-top boxes were sold in the State and last Christmas it was the second best-selling product, second only to video games.

In the process of its implementation over 10,000 companies were involved, more than 40,000 direct jobs were created and more than 12,000 million Euro were traded, which is why DTT, in many cases, generated sales and guarded against the impact of the crisis in consumer electronics.

Finally, remember that thanks to the Royal Decree approved by the Council of Ministers, television sets that are bigger than 21 inches have to be adapted in order to be able to receive Digital terrestrial Television (DTT) in high definition. Manufacturers must indicate and inform the user clearly and in detail about the capabilities of each television receiver on sale, including, in particular, the specifications related to DTT reception, high definition and other additional features.
