An interactive service has been designed to create some applications for the DTT

The Communication Technology Institute of Spain (INTECO) has developed an interactive service that allows creating applications for digital terrestrial television (DTT) easily and without requiring programming knowledge.

According to Raúl Riesco, Manager of INTECO, the interactive service is based on the MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) standard, an open middleware that works like a common platform for all the interactive applications of digital television, regardless of the interactive service supplier and of the television manufacturer.

Through the MHP standard, television sets can perform applications (contents offered from the channel itself) and users can interact with them.

The INTECO tool works at all the television sets having the standard. However, the company has admitted that no many houses have television sets with the MHP standard yet – according to their estimate, only 0.20% of the television sets in the market have this technology. Anyway, Raúl Riesco believes that the expanding of the high definition television and the renewing of television sets will help spread this technology.

The project was based on accessibility, so that any television set and any user might use the applications.
