On 25 March, the Biscay Historical Territory ended the analog switch-off process in the Basque Country, when the centres of Ganeta, Arnotegi and Serantes, within the Artxanda Technical Project, stopped emitting analog television signals to only emit the digital ones.
According to Basque Government"s data, the adaptation to the DTT in the Basque Autonomous Community started on 30 October, and in that first step, it almost only affected the province of Alava. Other 88 municipalities stopped watching analog television in the second step of disconnection, carried out in January.
On 10 March, the third and last step of the analog switch-off started. The cessation of emissions occurred, as in the previous steps, progressively, and started in the broadcast centres involving a lower number of inhabitants.
Biscay stopped emitting analog signal two days after Gipuzkoa, although, in the Basque Country, they had foreseen to complete the spreading of DTT on 3 April, that is to say, on the deadline for the national switch-off. The step forward of the Basque Autonomous Community responds to the will to resolve any incident that can emerge in the transition process before the Holly Week holidays.
Thus, on 25 March, the three Historical Territories were digitalised. That is why, from that day, communal aerials must be adapted to be able to watch television, digital signal decoders are needed in every television, or otherwise, a contract with a cable tv service is needed.
