The Government will have to pass a technical plan to digitalize the radio signal within a year, once the General Audiovisual Law is passed. The technical plan will be similar to the one for the DTT.
So was stated in the amendment presented by the Catalan parliamentary group agreed with the socialist group. The amendment was included in the bill when the text was voted in the Constitutional Commission of the parliament on January 7, as a transitory provision.
Moreover, the text expresses that "the plan for the integral digitalization of the sound terrestrial radio broadcast service" must "obey the current concessions" with regard to medium waves, metric waves with modulation of frequency or waves sound terrestrial radio broadcast service, "which will be adapted and transformed within the new digital technology".
Furthermore, it commits the Government to support "the best agreement with the business sectors (both public and private) of sound terrestrial radio broadcasting , of telecommunication companies that offer support for broadcasting services and companies of electronic and car sector, amongst others".
According to the amendment presented by CiU and PSOE "the digitalization of radio stations is the last step to complete the digitalization of telecommunication services" once the television signal is digitalized, which is due to be on April 3. "These services cannot be left out of the digitalization process", pointed out both political parties.
The transitory provision stated that within six months after the law is come into force, the "Government will present to the European Commission and Council, accordingly, a proposal to co-ordinate the member states for the global digitalization of the terrestrial radio broadcasting services".
