OHSAS 18001 Certification, Itelazpi’s commitment to health and safety in the workplace
Itelazpi is a company with a strong commitment to health and safety in the workplace, work to which a significant portion of its annual budget is assigned.
All employment practice involves certain risks in varying degrees. In the case of Itelazpi this is noted through its personnel (not only its staff, but also contractors) who operate their business in their facilities, characterised by technical infrastructure of various types, situated in isolated and remotes locations, a large number of them located in mountainous areas, where accessing work sites and carrying out regular work under safe conditions is often threatened by inclement weather.
As such, in Itelazpi’s business activity there is a concurrence of industry-specific risks (electrical hazards, etc.) in addition to those derived from the particular aspects of the facilities that make up the telecommunications centres (working at height, access by 4 x 4 vehicles, etc.).
It is because of this that, from the outset, health and safety in the workplace has very much been to the forefront for Itelazpi.
All work carried out regarding workplace health and safety led Itelazpi, from 2007, to focus its efforts on achieving the OHSAS 18001: 2007 certification, that is to say, to regulate all work carried out in relation to health and safety until that time, in collaboration with their health and safety service to others and that an external body would evaluate said work and highlight, where appropriate, which aspects could be improved upon.
Just as enforcement of the health and safety regulation is mandatory, the OHSAS specification is voluntary, yet it allows to ensure compliance thereof given that health and safety regulation emphasizes the integration of health and safety within companies’ management systems.
The level of reliability and advancement reached in the management of Health and Safety in the workplace enabled Itelazpi to obtain the OHSAS 18001:2007 certification in 2008 making it become one of the few public companies dependent on the Basque Government to have obtained this certification.
Likewise, Itelazpi has recently, through its management system, revalidated its commitment to health and safety in the workplace obtaining the renewal of the aforementioned certification.
This certification confirms Itelazpi’s good practice and recognizes the reliability, advancement and effectiveness of its health and safety management system in the workplace, while at the same time confirming its commitment to continuous improvement. It thereby recognizes the effort and dedication made by the whole team at Itelazpi for providing effective responses to the needs of their clients and reaffirms its resolute path towards business excellence.
