Yahoo! launches "TV Widgets", enabling Internet access from the television
Yahoo! presented "TV Widgets", a new technology enabling access to Internet contents and services from the television, although via applications designed for better surfing and control from apparatus remote.
According to the portal by virtue of agreements reached with some television manufacturers like Samsung or Intel, the "Yahoo! Widget Engine" is being incorporated in new models reaching the market. You can already purchases televisions here with that technology.
"TV Widgets" offers the viewer the possibility of converting their favourite Internet services into television adapted applications. Thus users will be able to watch episodes of their favourite series, films, consult the latest news or sports results, purchase on eBay or get update with their friends on Twitter or search and watch internet videos using the remote.
Furthermore these services are presented in a side window, so can be used while watching TV except when you wish to reproduce photos or videos which open to complete window.
The ‘TV Widget Dock’ menu is activated via a button on the remote which is located unobtrusively at the bottom of the screen, you select a ‘widget’ and will be able to see the contents without missing details of the programme being broadcast, thus 2 people can use the same device for 2 different things at the same time.
